Happy MR2sday! Let’s talk MR2s. This one’s mine :D
Alright, let’s get the unpopular oppopinion out of the way:
The Veilside-style front bumper for MR2s looks fantastic. I’m tempted to get one.
The rest of the bodykit is overwrought and dated though.
Nope. Too much going on.
IF I got the front bumper cover, what do I do to keep the design cohesive?
I’m inclined to get tasteful-looking 17" wheels, and rear window louvers for maximum ‘80s & ‘90s RADNESS...
How would YOU design an MR2?

I like them as is, so what would I do? Nothing.

A Mazda 2 is better than an body-kitted MR2

I feel that the Veilslide bumper is so far out there design-wise, it will be hard to match anything up to it. I like the rear, go full Veilside!

I think it only worths with the rest of the kit.
and then it only looks good when its in good condition. having a body kit with mismatched panels aint going to look good no matter what you do to it.

Sell it and buy a Miata or another smart.

Seconded.

17" 3-piece OZ Fittipaldi Fitti-stars. Center powdercoated to color match the body:

if it were me.......and its NOT ME....... i would keep the stock looking front end, and throw some real wide tires under it. by under it, i mean sticking out past the fenders by a good bit......
wide tires and wheels, no flares......
dont worry about how popular your opinions are, just make decisions that will make you happy......

I did “nothing” (besides having the broken parts fixed) for a year. Then it came time to get working shocks again, and it turned out a full coilover setup was the most cost-effective way to do that.
It’s now a slippery slope :O

The 2.2-liter non-turbo 5S-FE is too much power already. It’s also got more low-end torque than most K-series engines :P
That said, if someone offered me a K20, I’d be all over it.

But
The Miata’s engine is in the wrong place!
The Smart has the rear-engine setup (like a Porsche!!) so get a 4th one of those :)

I mean, objectively speaking, from the standpoint of practicality, yes. More seats. And it’s got less funky ‘90s weirdness.
Funky ‘90s weirdness is rad tho

Hmm. I guess the bumper isn’t bad, I just can’t bring myself to do those side skirts and the wing :P
The side skirts look melty and the wing is the exact right height to block visibility. If it were taller, I could look under it. If it were shorter (like the stock wing), then I’d save my money and keep the superior stock wing.

Those are pretty rad.
Almost excessively rad. I like them.

Good thing is, even if you decide to do nothing...you still got a rad ride.

I’d definitely get it installed by professionals for this one. The Veilside style bumper might need some work to look tasteful.
Rally lights might do the trick... (at least to de-emphasize the Veilside-ness of it)

Ooh. Maybe rally-style MR2 is the way to go.

Same thing I do every month....autocross the shizz out of it.

I’m looking at painting my repainting my ‘88 SC from black to Orange Pearl.
Would you recommend your paint shop? I also don’t know how I’ll color match all the trim.

Someone down the street from my dad has an ‘85? hardtop with this awesome paint scheme minus the door decals and spoiler. Total ‘80s goodness.

I’m going on a family trip up to the border next week. I can get a free lift in my brother’s Commodore. Or take the MR2.
What do

The paint shop I’ve used doesn’t do OE colors, instead they’ve got what seems to be their own proprietary blending system. They can do literally any color, solid or metallic, but it won’t be exactly OE.
I did their most basic 2-coat package, which looks really good at even 5 feet away, and has held up well over the 7 months since it was painted. Not perfect , but it’s certainly good enough.
If you want the OE color in a factory finish, I’d shop around a LOT and see what’s best.

It’s happening. Expect a post. Just my car in the countryside or something. Nothing fancy.

Red or blue, pretty factory looking (wheels maybe). Drop in a 3rd or 4th gen 3gste. It would be a 4th or 5th car for me so I kind of like the idea of buying a newer JDM model with a 3rd gen (or wait a bit longer and get a 4th gen). There are already some showing up on CL: https://austin.craigslist.org/cto/d/1992-toyota-mr2-turbo-gts-jdm/6491420443.html
